Overview
LAND studio is partnering with Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. (BBC) and the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) to commission a sculptural artwork for the new Woodhill Center North Campus (Morris Black), part of the Elevate the East initiative. Local artists and artist teams are invited to submit their qualifications to design a community-inspired artwork for one of the most visible locations on the campus.
This is a design commission, not a call for existing work. We're looking for an artist or team to lead a community-engaged design process resulting in an original sculptural element. Special consideration will be given to artists with ties to the Buckeye-Shaker, Larchmere, Woodland Hills, and Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods, and previous public art experience is required.
The selected artist or team will receive a $10,000 design and community engagement fee to lead three community engagement events with Woodhill Estates residents, produce three sketch-level conceptual designs, and develop a final design in partnership with the Morris Black Advisory Committee. The overall project budget, including fabrication and installation, is $150,000. This project builds on the Elevate the East plan's vision to celebrate the culture, history, and identity of the Woodhill community through public art.
Note: Artist fees shall not exceed 20% of the overall project budget. The final artist fee may be negotiated based on the scope and complexity of the remaining design work, the level of artistic services required, and the project’s specific needs. If Artist is also fabricating, additional fees may be requested.
