Overview

In the winter of 2019, LAND studio proudly selected artist Karen Sandstrom to showcase her work on The Art Wall, a rotating art space on Public Square. Each quarter, a new local artist is picked to transform our cityscape, enriching it with creativity.

From the artist

Play is an important part of what it means to be human, and playing with others is perhaps never more crucial than during turbulent times. Toss a ball, dance around, or build something together, and occasionally magic erupts. We forget ourselves. We find connection. Play Better honors the joy and exuberance to be found in these moments.

But not all games are benign. What happens when we engage only in forms of play that separate us into winners and losers, or that depend on creating victims? Which kinds of play leave us feeling smaller, meaner, or estranged, and which nourish us and our friends? We have a very real opportunity to improve the world through the ways we entertain ourselves and each other.
