Overview

During the summer of 2023, Amber Ford was commissioned to create a piece for our See Also partnership program with Cleveland Public Library. The annual series presents innovative and thought-provoking temporary works of art at various Library locations across Cleveland.

About the Art

Ford is interested in using imagery and collaborative storytelling to provide softer access points to the difficult realities many people face daily. Out of Reach is part of a larger series of photographs that focus on the effects poverty has on children’s health and development in under-served communities. The photographs depict signs of lead poisoning, food insecurity, asthma, and access to healthcare. Through art and installation, she renders pathways for discursive safe spaces between the viewers and art to provoke more discussions and compassion while maintaining and emphasizing the humanity in the conversation. Special thanks to MetroHealth for commissioning the artwork.
