Recognized as one of the most important and well-curated mural festivals in the world, POW! WOW! Worldwide has helped transform the physical spaces of 17 communities around the globe. In the summer of 2021, they worked with Northeast Ohio artists, MidTown Cleveland, and LAND studio to make over 20 facades of buildings in MidTown and its surrounding neighborhood in a celebration of art, culture, and community.

A Mural Program Amidst a Global Pandemic
MidTown Cleveland kept CLEVELAND WALLS! as safe as possible for program attendees, artists, neighborhood residents, and partners. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program required physical distancing and followed all state mandates and CDC recommendations. The event minimized the risks of virus transmission while still celebrating the arts and their ability to help our community process, cope, and find inspiration and joy—an important endeavor now and always.
The week-long program included free family-friendly activities, performances, and artist talks, in addition to 20 public murals created during the event.
CLEVELAND WALLS! brought together a diverse representation of artists and artistic styles in celebration of seeing the world through multiple perspectives and the value of fostering understanding, respect, and connection. The event also highlighted Midtown’s unique living and working spaces, cultural destinations, and eclectic food scene.
