Visiting Edgewater Park just got more bike friendly. Today, Brian Zimmerman, Cleveland Metroparks CEO; Joseph DiRocco, Charter One & RBS Citizens President; Greg Peckham, Managing Director of LAND studio; and Jacob Van Sickle, Executive Director of Bike Cleveland officially unveiled a new Bike Box in Cleveland Metroparks Lakefront Reservation.
 
 The 8’ x 20’ repurposed, locally-sourced, shipping container - turned Bike Box, encourages recreational and commuter cycling by providing safe, sheltered bike parking for 20 to 25 bikes. Placed in a strategically visible location near Edgewater Beach and the Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway, the Bike Box will support existing and future bike parking needs.
 
“We are thrilled to receive the Bike Box at Edgewater Park,” said Brian Zimmerman. “We want to thank Charter One Foundation for their generous support. The new Bike Box showcases the personality of Cleveland Metroparks while promoting and increasing healthy transportation alternatives for the community.”
 
The Edgewater Park Bike Box is the last of seven Bike Boxes sponsored by the Charter One Foundation throughout Cuyahoga County. In 2012, the Charter One Foundation provided a grant through its Growing Communities initiative to LAND studio for the Bike Boxes. The Charter One Growing Communities initiative aims to revitalize neighborhoods with projects that demonstrate innovative solutions to community development, incorporate collaborative partnerships to improve life for residents, promote economic development through job creation and demonstrate a plan for long-term sustainability. Since 2010, the Charter One Growing Communities initiative has contributed more than $800,000 to projects across Greater Cleveland.
 
“The Charter One Foundation is proud to partner with LAND studio, Cleveland Metroparks and Bike Cleveland to bring the Bike Box to Edgewater Park,” said Joseph DiRocco. “The Bike Box is a creative way to promote the livability of the city, neighborhood beautification and healthy living.”
 
After selecting Edgewater Beach as the last location, LAND studio worked with Cleveland Metroparks and local artisans at Rustbelt Welding Company to design the box.
 
"As we see a growth in the number of people biking for recreation and transportation, it is exciting to see innovative bike parking options being incorporated into the renaissance happening at Edgewater Park," said Jacob Van Sickle.
