Components of the levy are not only critical to supporting jobs and industry, but will also deliver vital connections to our lake and riverfronts—that are critical to our growth as a region. As Riverbed Road is shored up to safeguard shipping, a critical piece of the Lake Link Trail will be put into place. This 1.5 mile trail along the west side of the Flats will be a connector to the Towpath, the river and lakefronts for Ohio City, Tremont, Detroit Shoreway and other burgeoning neighborhoods. The levy will also provide critical funding support for the proposed connector bridge to the lakefront. This bridge connects the Lake Link Trail to Wendy Park. The plan also includes funding for a pedestrian bridge from the Mall to the lakefront. These are the building blocks we need to continue the growth we are seeing downtown and in our neighborhoods. The Port plan is a strategic combination of investments that will promote industry and spur waterfront development.
