Happy Birthday Arts in August

An eclectic performance of music and art on August 25th marked the end to the 2012 season of Arts in August. This year was the 10th anniversary of the free arts and culture programming taking place in Tremont’s Lincoln Park.  Since 2002, thousands of northeast Ohioans have enjoyed interesting and innovative performances throughout the month of August and beyond.

“With each passing year the performances have gotten more exciting,” Says Michelle Davis, marketing and fund development director for Tremont West Development Corporation. “This program offers accessibility to the arts that are often inaccessible to our residents and the rest of the community.”

In any given weekend audiences are treated to free performances from ballet to opera and Shakespeare to hip hop. Arts in August was designed to expose Tremont and Greater Cleveland to the beauty and positive influence of the arts. Since its inception, Arts in August has had more than 100 free performances, workshops, and hands-on arts and cultural activities.

“Over the last ten years, the leadership role that LAND studio and Tremont West have played in Arts in August has been incredible – from identifying the partner organizations to making Lincoln Park an active and culturally rich public space. Thousands of people would not have had the summers in the city they did but for this event.  This partnership continues to make the citizens of our city participants in the joy of Cleveland's art scene,” explained Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman.

Ten years of amazing performances would not be possible without the many talented organizations and generous donors who continually invest in their commitment to expose the region to performing arts.  Thank you, Tremont West Development Corporation, Councilman Cimperman, Cleveland Public Theatre, Antaeus Dance, MorrisonDance, Verb Ballets, Opera Per Tutti, ALLGOSIGNS, Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, Groundworks DanceTheater, Clear Channel Outdoor, Ohio Arts Council, Consolidated Graphics Group, Stein Inc., Cleveland Water, Forest City Enterprises, Medical Mutual of Ohio, Cleveland Foundation, Geis Companies, Third Federal Savings & Loan, Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, Tremont Trek, PNC and WH Fay Company and Tuesdays in Tremont participants.
