Overview

With their series of colorful sculptures, Toco-Oco has created a new way of expressing their art in Brazil. The Brazilian artists Guilherme Neumann and Lara Alcantara met in a Visual Arts course in 2007 and have collaborated since 2008. Working in wood, resin, fabric, 3D printing, and ceramics, the artist couple creates works that address questions such as existentialism, the parallel between life & death, and the relationship between man and nature.

From the Artists

Our work tells stories about being and existing as humans and social and family relation- ships like joys and traumas. What we managed to overcome or not, and how we evolved or resignified during life. Translating through ancestral and contemporary symbols and always seeking to relate past, present, and future, we imagine these characters as facets of ourselves and of each person who is capable of identifying themselves with issues that are inherent to any human being. Between masks, heads, arrows, and colors, mixing our inner animal that often overlaps our conscience, we seek to discuss what afflicts and moves us.
