The COVID-19 pandemic emphasized the importance of accessible and well-maintained parks and greenspaces to support the physical, social, and mental health of communities. Early on, when museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions were closed, LAND created The City is Our Museum (TCIOM), a social media campaign advocating for the exploration of Cleveland’s public art and public spaces. At a time when people needed to socially distance, the organization wanted to highlight the joy that is experienced by discovering the city’s neighborhoods.
The City is Our Museum app is now available! Download the FREE app for self-guided tours of public art and public space in Cleveland neighborhoods. The app is free to download from both the Apple Store and Google Play, and promotes the exploration of Cleveland’s expansive public art and public spaces. The app features several different self-guided neighborhood tours, with plans to add additional neighborhood tours throughout the summer.
Available now are neighborhood tours of University Circle, Fairfax, Buckeye-Shaker, the central district of downtown Cleveland, the near west side of Cleveland, MidTown, Ohio City, and Slavic Village.
The vision for the App is to connect residents and visitors to Cleveland’s ever-expanding public art collection, highlight the beauty in our neighborhoods, and to include other notable sites related to the city’s history and infrastructure.
The City is Our Museum 2023 Collection is made possible through the generous sponsorship of PNC Bank. Underwriting for The City is our Museum is also provided by the George W. Codrington Foundation.
We encourage users of the app to take selfies with the art & spaces they explore and post them on social using the hashtag #thecityisourmuseum.
