Overview

Kate Lewis taught and wrote curricula about masterpieces at The Art Institute of Chicago for many years before making the move to set up a studio practice at home while raising her children.

Heavy in color and pattern, while still playful and loose, Lewis’ paintings are instantly accessible yet evoke a deeper essence of what’s being portrayed. Her style is a combination of elegance and whimsy. Lewis works primarily in watercolor, gouache and acrylic on paper and heavily gessoed canvas. Her paintings invite the viewer to imaginatively enter into spaces, to wander through them and find their own spark of creative connection.
