Kent Public Art Plan
About the Work
LAND studio has developed a plan that will enhance Kent for residents, students, employees, and visitors. The City of Kent and Kent State University commissioned the creation of this plan because they want to create a framework for developing a public art plan that cultivates vibrant public art and an exciting sense of place for this college town.
Both the city and university are undergoing a significant transformation. Downtown Kent has grown significantly in the past decade, and the university has undertaken numerous capital improvements in addition to rearranging itself for a new pedestrian- and bike-friendly era. Within the past year, the university and downtown are now physically and visually connected by an extension of the university's Lester A. Lefton Esplanade.
The goals of the Kent Public Art Plan are to: establish an outline for incorporating and emphasizing public art into public spaces in downtown Kent and on the KSU campus, to enrich Kent and KSU's uniqueness, and to encourage the use of art and creativity to further catalyze development, motivate the public realm, and create a distinctive and vibrant place that is attractive to residents, students, faculty, and visitors.
