About the Work
Positively Cleveland, the convention and visitors bureau for Greater Cleveland, LAND Studio and community partners have teamed on a beautification project incorporating the work of local designers and fabricators on Prospect Ave. near East 4th Street. The enhancements, which visually connect the Horsehoe Casino Cleveland and nearby attractions such as East 4th St., include the addition of 11 colorful planters and two custom-fabricated parkmobiles along Prospect Ave., brightening and greening the streetscape and creating vibrant spaces for people to gather. A 70 ft. tall mural, sponsored by Sherwin-Williams, on the side of the Residence Inn features a series of “spirographs,” that deliver color and a sense of welcome to this entertainment district. Additionally, a series of window graphics designed by American Greetings have been installed in the May Company building’s windows that front Prospect, adding vitality to this massive, vacant landmark.
The initiative, coined Curb Appeal, calls for both short- and long- term plans for physical enhancements throughout the city to improve the perception that nearby attractions are close and easily accessible by foot. Curb Appeal, which furthers the nearly $3 billion travel and tourism infrastructure development, also demonstrates that a significant visual impact can be made with a relatively small investment to create a clean, friendly and seamless pedestrian experience.
