Crooked River Skate Park
About the Work
LAND studio has partnered with Grindline Skateparks Inc., Public Square Group and the City of Cleveland to create a first class skate park in the Flats. The Crooked River Skate Park is located on the east bank of the Cuyahoga River next to Rivergate Park. The site is adjacent to Hart Crane Memorial Park and in close proximity to the Columbus road bridge, the Ohio City Bicycle Co-op and the Cleveland Rowing Foundation. The skate park covers 15,000 square feet and features the iconic snake run, street park elements, ledges and more.
Cleveland-based designer Dru Mckeown of TOI studio was selected as part of the City of Cleveland's public art program to design a shade structure for the park. The 40-foot structure is inspired by the industrial landscape of the Cuyahoga River Valley.

How It Started
Originally, this project was focused on the relocation of the temporary skate park at Cleveland's North Coast Harbor, which had fallen into disrepair and has since been dismantled. The City of Cleveland then engaged LAND studio to manage the design process. LAND studio retained Grindline Skateparks Inc., a Seattle based skate park design team. Based on stakeholder and public feedback the snake run concept was selected as the final design. The project was completed in fall of 2014.
